Ocean fishing.A wide selection of charter boats is available, but the best ones require booking well in advance, sometimes up to a year in advance. Trophy fishing for marlin, tuna, kingfish, and grouper. Smaller fish include snapper, kahawai, and trevally. Helifishing, which involves casting to remote locations by helicopter, is popular.

Trout fishing. Fly fishing, spinning, casting, and trolling. Trout were introduced to New Zealand from Europe and North America. Our most popular spot is the area around Lake Taupo.

Wild turkey hunting . These are large, yet very agile birds. Hunting them is quite exciting, as getting within shooting range can be challenging... This bird has keen eyes, quick feet, and... flies.
